So I finally got my rulebook today and tried to understand everything on the first read. Will probably read 100 more times everywhere at any chance I get until I know most of the rules. I did realize some things that affects Dark Eldar and I'm going to post them here and how I can use these rule changes. I will start from HQ and go down the line. Every post will be dedicated to one set of force organization slot. So lets begin!
Special Characters
Asdrubael Vect
His scepter got nerfed now that it is AP3. So only go after MEQs or GEQs.
The Dias slightly gets buffed it now has 3HP cause it's a raider it also shoots 2 Dark Lances(DL) at full BS and 1 DL with snap fire when going cruising.
With the new rules to grenades Vect can now do damage to vehicles in the shooting phase with haywire grenades.
Ancient Nemesis is now buffed due to the Preferred Enemy (PE) buff. The rules states that Vect "HAS THE PREFERRED ENEMY RULE AGAINST ALL UNITS." This means he now grants PE (Everything) to any unit he's with. PE also helps his Orbs have a better chance to hit and wound with re-rolls of 1.
I see this working with Blasterborn.
Shooting
Hit: 3+ w/ re-roll to hit of 1s
Wound: 2+ w/ re-roll to wound of 1s (Only good against models with T<=T6)
Is this a good set up for Vect's hefty point investment, not really, at least you know that this is an option.
Lady Malys
Not a lot changed for the Ex-Wife with a grudge.
Drazhar. Master of Blades
This guy went from never take in 5th Edition to a Godly Beast in 6th Edition. He is one of the few things in our codex that can AP 2+ in combat at his initiative. Completely buffs his squad of Incubi. Fearless got buffed. 2+ is godly now in assault unless the enemy is packing AP2 Fists, Hammers, and Axes.
Demiklaives has been affected majorly by the mass AP change to CCWs. At least it was a good change for these weapons. I can see the Klaivex challenging a character or accepting a challenge and using his own Demiklaives and using either profile depending on the situation and Drazhar annihilating the rest of the squad.
Drazhar automatically comes with both Klaivex special rules thus letting you save points on your Incubi squad. Good thing about "Murderous Assault" is that it grants the model PE against a chosen IC in assault, this means the unit gets PE against the same IC. If the IC doesn't get challenged everyone in B2B can use PE on it.
With the buff/nerf to FNP you can make Drazhar very difficult to kill with 1 pain token(PT).
Lelith Hesperax
I can see this Dark Muse become a great challenger of characters with her League Apart rule and her shardnets. Only flaw is to not challenge a character with S6+ attacks, can't risk failing your 3++ and dieing to ID.
Her attacks always penetrate armor so she wasn't affected by the power weapon nerf.
She can now use her INSANE BS9 in the shooting phase with plasma grenades. Is this a big buff? YES IT IS! You may think plasma grenades are weak sauce but think of your options. She doesn't have a pistol and running is nerfed, so if your in the shooting phase and you don't want to run at least you can throw a grenade even if you roll a 12" the blast is only going to scatter 3" due to her being BS9.
Urien Rakarth
The Master Haemonculus didn't change much in rules, but his use has changed. I can see Urien being used as a "Tank' a reference used in MMORPGs, pretty much he is a meat shield. He can be used to accept challenges or issue them stopping your opponent from wiping out your other characters or using his CC beast of a character against your unit.
Being T5 nothing will really instant death(ID) Urien, except for weapons that cause ID.
Having Clone Field, Urien can easily shrug off attacks from any character.
He comes with a PT so he has FNP right off the bat. He can now ignore anys wounds that get past the field and his epic 6+ save.
Whatever wounds that manage to actually stick he can just heal 1 back at the beginning of his turn.
Duke Sliscus the Serpent
The CO of the Sky Serpents is still a beast even after the changes. He will probably see more action than ever before. Let me explain why.
Serpent's Bite wasn't changed by the AP change, so one more model in our codex that can ignore 2+ armor.
If you take any unit that uses combat drugs he will still buff them, even more now than ever our units will need that free PT.
His Low Orbit Raid may not have change much, but using it can now prove its advantages. If you don't take flicker fields and depend on the jink rule going second can really hurt you. So you might decide to reserve your skimmers instead of risking not having cover. Now if you come from the bored you are limited to where you can go 30" at most if you flat-out in the shooting, but you can't shoot. Also with the way cover works you will want to target models not in cover and force your opponent to allocate wounds to those models. Easy way to do this is deep strike in a position and get a shot off with your Lances, D. Cannons or S. Cannons. You can also pick any spot to land on the table and then move flat-out in the shooting phase to get a better position advantage for the next shooting phase. Added benefit is passengers can still snap fire from transports when you deepstrike so a bigger plus
Kheradruakh, the Decapitator
I still can't see anyone wanting to burn a HQ slot for this guy, I rather take Lady Malys or Duke for the roughly the same point costs. One thing I wish was that he was an upgrade character to Mandrakes like Arjac is to Wolf Guard and Lemartes is to Death Company. Having that set up would have made more sense, I would actually field Mandrakes and pay the points to upgrade and include The Decapitator. His weapon got nerfed to AP3. He still can't assault the turn he comes in. He is still T3 without Eternal Warrior(EW).
Baron Sathonyx
What can I say I love the Baron. Even in 5th he was great. His only downfall is that he has no way of negating armor of any kind. He grants stealth to any unit he is with which, stealth got buffed. Even in the open you still get 6+ Cover saves with stealth. Now we all remember how annoying 4+ cover was, well GW tried to make 5+ on most terrain with the Baron you can still have 4+ cover goodness. His buffs to hellions are pretty much the same, nothing has changed. He can also use the assault grenades granted by the PGL instead of his skyboard.
Summary
Vect should stay away from 2+ armor in assault. He grants PE to his attached unit. Lady Malys hasn't changed much. Drazhar will be seeing more action on the table top for his AP2 weapons and free buffs. Lelith will be a great challenger but needs to stay away from anything that's S6. Urien is our "Tank Class" against characters. Duke will be great for tactical deployments. Kreradruakh no comment. The Baron is pretty much the same, except now he can toss grenades.
